WALK-IN CLOSET pt. 1

ERRMERRGARD

Where do I even begin?

Hello, I’m back. Sorry it’s been awhile but that’s how life gets when you’re in full Pursuit of Happyness. Sure there were twists and turns, ups and downs and I intend to fill you all in but this is where we’ll start because, ERRMERRGARD.

This is, a #breakupstory

One year, my lil homies set me up on a blind date with a man they felt had similar goals and interests. They call me grandma/auntie so, they set me up with a 43y/o (I was 30). They handed my number off to him and he texted immediately.. 🧵🪡 (originally dirty deleted from threads)

We hit it off. The only thing turning me off about him was that he’s a Cowboys fangworl. 🙄 He asked me on a date to get hibachi. Asked about my schedule and then set a time and day.

He even adjusted his original thought to take into account that I’m typically always late (previously discussed). The night came and we were in constant communication as I was getting ready.

As I drove down he called because I was running behind schedule. He made me feel at ease about taking my sweet time driving and told me not to stress about being late.

Upon arrival he met me at my car door, opened it and walked me inside. 6’4, full facial hair but like cut/suave, handsome smile and a curly top. His shoes were nice too, don’t ask me which J’s.

WHEW baby, the man ordered my food and drink for me. And proceeded to initiate and engage in some 🔥 conversation. We even laughed about how the other couple was judging our clear age difference.

The lil homies were right. They did a good job! At the end of the date, we were the last people at the table. Still talking until damn near close.

We discussed a horror film that we were both waiting to come out the next day and at the end of our conversation he decided we were going to see it.

This man was checking boxes I didn’t know existed. Made sure I got home safely and shared everything he liked about me from our first date. Like, okay!!!

Next evening I drove to his house so he could drive to the theater. (I lived 45min from him and he lived an hour and 20min from the theater).

When I got to his home he showed me around, grabbed some water and we hopped in his range. Figured he was flexing because he drove a bmw the night before but, okaaaay.

We’re off to the theater…

This was the longest ride EVER. He was slamming on the breaks, honking at people, cutting people off, cussing people out and his damn police scanner was going BONKERS.

I asked myself if that’s how people felt when I drove, because this was unhinged as f. But I just lowered my seat a little, sat back and laughed.

We arrived.

He parked on a hill so he lowered the car for me to hop out comfortably and of course he opened the door. He stood ten toes down on all things chivalrous. Then we hiked up the steps to the theater.

It was one of those dine in type of theaters but it was 2pm so instead of eating there he had a plan to take me to the best Caribbean (jerk chicken specifically) spot in Seattle afterward.

We had drinks, got scared, ate some popcorn and then off to the spot.

He held the car door open and after he closed it, I leaned my car seat back a lil more and tried to look unbothered. Speed racer whipped that thang out the garage and onto the highway.

The conversation continued over the music and police scanner.

With each verbal exchange, I’m increasingly interested in where this could go. 43, divorced, no kids, handsome, chivalrous and energetic. What could go wrong?

It’s only the second date…

Fast forward through the fluff of a month.

Endless communication, FaceTiming, jokes, picture sharing and planning. It’s almost time for me to deploy, October 7th, 2023.

He asked me to be his woman on October 5th, 2023.

Of course I say yes! 🥰🤗 he’s already shared with me he is monogamous and a diamond in the rough. Plus he’s 43, why would he be playing?

On the other side of the world our schedules conflicted. His building was secure so no phone during working hours which affected communication as well.

So we Facetimed before he went to work as I was going to bed and again when I was going to bed and he was going to work.

It put a strain on us a little bit but he suggested we get to know one another better utilizing this app: Couple Game Relationship Quiz. It was fun to me honestly! There were puzzles, fill in the blanks and conversation starters. Literally like questionnaires that others found weird.

Fast forward to the week that Valentine’s Day falls on, he sends me a long message about how he didn’t want to do it through messaging, however he tells me:

“I love you”

Me to myself: 🤔 not a damn love bomber. I sing Mariah lightly, “Players only love you when they’re playing games.” Ya know what? It’s okay. Maybe it’s genuine.

Sike!

I HAD A DREAM that night y’all. I didn’t remember much of it but I knew the feeling and the message was clear as the sky is blue.

Walk away.

And like many of us, I did not walk away…
